Adventures in Stornoway

Hi

How's it goin?

Back in March, I did a week long feature on the blog called Island Week. The films featured on Island Week were submissions for a film festival in Stornoway. Out of all the films submitted by my classmates, four of them were deemed good enough to be put forward to the festival, and the four people responsible were taken to Stornoway, all expenses paid.
Which was nice.
It was a long trip. It involved a train, a free meal at pizza express, a coach, a ferry and a coach. During which time I watched several episodes of The Big Bang Theory on my iphone, and discovered that my classmate Cat had never, ever read a newspaper before. The whole concept was baffling to her. She genuinely struggled to figure out what to do. In the end she just gave up and stared out the window for another two hours.
The train took us to Inverness and then we waited for a coach to Ullapool in order to catch a ferry to Stornoway. It was a two hour wait until the ferry, so we did what any other sensible group of people would do in this situation, we went to the pub.
En route to the pub we discovered this sign for a chip shop. Spot the spelling mistake?

It was a long hard 3 days away, filled with drinking and films. And lots of people speaking gaelic.
The festival had lots of various award ceremonies and workshops/lectures to attend. Some of them were very interesting. It was a great we trip away. I made some videos of our trip, and one of the girls with us took about 400 photos.
Here are the videos I made on my eye phone. Sorry they are not the best quality and I couldn't be bothered to edit them in anyway. I'm pretty busy at the moment so you people are lucky to be getting this.

You're welcome!

And so it's all over. It was a fantastic three days away, almost all expenses paid. Which was nice. Cat won the green light award and rightly so. Her film was by far the best. I was just happy to get a free trip.

(Belated) Island Week: John Island

Hi

How's it goin?

Here's a film that was not finished in time for Island Week on The Blog a couple of weeks ago.
It was written and Directed by Kevin Macaloon, and stars the man who's in more films this year than anyone else, Struan.
It's very good.

Kev decided to go the opposite direction as everyone else and not include a physical island and make this instead.

John Island is a man who wishes he was someone else, working in an office all day he has plenty of time to wonder about his life as someone else and on the walk home his multiple personality syndrome kicks in.

Island Week: And the nominations are...

Hi

How's it goin?

So as Island Week draws to a close, it gives me great pleasure to announce who's films have actually been put forward for The Celtic Media Festival 2011.

We found out on Wednesday afternoon. Our lecturer told us the announcement would be up on the Further Educational Institutes  webpage within five minutes. And sure enough five minutes later, the link was up. I clicked it, I clicked that link with more enthusiasm than any link I had ever clicked ever.
And it didn't work.

It didn't work!
I went mental.
Myself and Stephen then searched the building for our course leader to demand answers. We went to 6 classrooms, 4 offices, 3 toilets, 7 cupboards and a tv studio. He was no where to be found. He was in hiding. He knew we were looking for him, I'm sure of it. This was some kind of psychological mind game he was playing. The bastard.
Eventually we broke into his office, found another teacher in there and demanded answers. He gave us none, and then we found the man we were looking for. He wandered in looking all innocent, claiming not to know we were searching the whole building for him.
Hmmmm? A likely story.
We demanded answers. He told us to ask another lecturer.
We then rushed back to class to find the lecturer in question, he then supplied us with the correct link on the webpage and we saw the delegates for the festival.
The people who's films will be shown at the Celtic Media Festival 2011 are...

And a first year girl who I don't know.

There is a standby list, so if one of us can't go then one of the stand by guys will take our place. Amongst those stand by's are Sulaiman and Brodie. Both of whom deserve to go as they have made films which are much better than mine.

So the good news is, that Cat, Stephen and myself are off to Stornoway (all expenses paid) for a film festival for a few days.
I don't expect my film to win. Both Stephens and Cats films are much better than mine. So I'm not going expecting to win anything, just hoping to have a good time for three days in Stornoway.
I'll let you know how it goes.
A massive thank you to everyone who has viewed and liked my film on youtube, and for your kind words in fighting against my Anonymous Abuser.

Island Week: Sulaimans Island

Hi

How's it goin?

And for the final instalment of Island Week, It's Sulaimans Island.
Sulaiman entered a film last year when the theme was Green. Here it is.

His first year film, Moments, was also very good. And starred a  couple of very talented actors in the opening scene.

Sulaiman shot his film on his own DSLR camera, and it looks fooking sexy. I don't mean the people in it. Just the shot's themselves.

Anyway, here it is, judge for yourself.

Island Week: Stephens Island

Hi

How's it goin?

Island Week continues today with Stephens Island. Two weeks ago my classmate Stephen, (The same Stephen who made the excellent film, The Dealer.) booked some time in the studio and shot his island film.
I acted in his, which is of course a winning formula for any movie.
His film revolved around several couples walking around a lonely girl sitting in the dark.
The girl was played by KP.

I was asked to be one half, of one of those couples.
Donald and Jenna from the other class were another couple. You may recognise these two from Stephens other film The Dealer.
and the third couple, were Scott and Struan.

Basically the couples have to walk around the single girl holding hands. Struan seemed a bit uncomfortable holding hands with another man. Especially for such a long time. I did the only sensible thing a friend could do at such a time. Took lots of photo's and tormented him.

After a few minutes Struan got quite upset with me.
As this video shows.

It was a good way to spend a Monday morning, and Stephen has a great wee film. In the mean time here's a short behind the scenes video.

And some more behind the scenes pics.

Now after going through all that I bet you can't wait to see the film can you?
Well you lucky, lucky people, here it is.

Island Week: Cat's Island

Hi

How's it goin?

Continuing the theme of Island week. This is Cat's entry into the Celtic Media Festival. Here's a picture of Cat incase you didn't know what she looked like.
Cat is a very artistic person, here's a picture she once drew of me.

Her film is also very artistic, I'm sure you'll like it. It's very good.

Island Week: Andy's Island

Hi

How's it goin?

I should point out that when I say "shootin shit" I mean it in a cool way. I don't mean filming actual faeces, or that any of the stuff we have been shooting in anyway is shit. Quite the contrary, everything I've been involved in this year has been top notch. My classmates have some great films they are making this year. Much better than anything I've made.

This week on the blog, is Island week.

Every year, there is something called The Celtic Media Festival. It's an annual thing, hence the reason it happens every year. The Further Educational Institution I attend is taking part. And so am I. The festival sets a challenge every year. To make a one minute film, based on a one word theme. Last year the theme was Green. My classmates Laurence and KP actually won with their short film The Green Eyed Monster.

If you can't see the video above then stop reading this crap on facebook and CLICK HERE

This year the theme is Island. And I am taking part.
My film is about a man on holiday, on an island.
Here's a few pics taken during filming on a cold Wednesday morning. A massive thanks to Kev the cameraman and photographer, Struan the camera pusher and second cameraman, and of course the star of the show, Scott.

And just in case you haven't seen the film yet.
Here it is.

If you can't see the video above then stop reading this crap on facebook and CLICK HERE

And there ya have it.
What do ya think?
Is it crap?
Do you think I've got any chance?

Let me know, your opinion matters to me.

Honest it does.

Unless you are a twat.

You know who you are.

You twat face.

Come back tomorrow at the crack of noon to see Cats Island.
